The Library of
the International Academy of Philosophy plays an integral role in the teaching
programs and research undertakings of the Academy. The access to it is granted
for faculty members, students and researchers of the IAP.
Persons who are not members of the IAP can
use the library as well. In this case contact please our librarian.
The IAP library contains approximately 14,000
volumes, the vast majority of which are devoted to philosophy. Most works
are in English or German, but the library also contains books in Italian,
Spanish, Latin, Ancient Greek, Polish, and Portuguese. The library contains
works covering the full spectrum of philosophical disciplines and historical
periods, but a significant number of volumes are devoted to the following
topics:
- Phenomenology
- Ancient Greek philosophy, especially Plato and the
Platonic tradition
- Foundations of ethics, and applied ethics
- Philosophy of science
- Philosophy of medicine, including works on philosophical
issues connected to the brain and consciousness
- Metaphysics and philosophical anthropology
- Works addressing issues on the border between philosophy
and psychology
